Homily for the 21st Sunday by Fr. Joel

Fr. Joel Homilies

Love is Sacrifice

Ordinary Time, 21st Sunday. The central message of Christianity is this: the loving Fatherhood of God. But how can God be a loving Father when this world is so full of sin and suffering? Our readings today provide us with two answers. First, we aren’t perfect yet, and the suffering is a kind of discipline that purifies us. Second, Jesus is perfect, yet he chooses to suffer for us. This kind of voluntary suffering we call Sacrifice. God loves us enough to sacrifice his best for us. Do we love him in return? (22 Aug 2010)
